Installation and Windows requirements
The application needs 64-bit Windows 10 version 2004 or later, or Windows 11, and Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 8 x64. The installer can obtain the official runtime from Microsoft when it is missing. Installing only a different .NET edition or an x86 runtime may not satisfy this requirement.
Download the current signed installer from the official download page. If Windows or a prerequisite asks for a restart, complete that step and start setup again. The optional RelevantKnowledge offer can be declined; it is not needed to run the video editor.
Cutting does not match the section I want
Open Edit / Trim and check the start and end time fields, retained ranges and their export order. Use frame stepping for a visual boundary and playback for an audible one. Apply the edit before starting the final export.
Version 8.1.0 has no standalone Smart Cut trimming switch. Exact trims and picture edits normally use an encoded output. If an older guide or screenshot tells you to select Smart Cut or adjust playback speed, use the current trim controls instead.
A join is unavailable or Lossless only fails
Join mode needs at least two video sources. Check the queue order and choose a supported video output; audio-only, GIF and single-source Remux outputs are not general Join outputs. Multiple keep ranges in Cut mode export as separate files; join those clips separately when you need a continuous result.
Lossless joining requires an MP4, MOV or MKV output, compatible selected source streams, source dimensions and frame rate, and no edits that require encoding or source chapter timelines. Input filename extensions alone do not decide eligibility. Mixed codecs, dimensions, HDR or track layouts can require encoding. Choose Encode for a deliberately normalized result.
Audio, subtitles or playback are wrong
Inspect the selected audio and subtitle tracks for every source. A track number may refer to a different language in the next clip. Listen around each join. External editable subtitle files cannot be joined directly; convert clips first or burn the subtitles before joining. Existing embedded tracks depend on compatible layouts.
Try an appropriate MP4/H.264 output when broad playback compatibility is the goal. Review the export in the receiving player and check its beginning, boundaries and ending. Do not assume that a file extension proves that its codecs are supported by every device.
An online source cannot be read or downloaded
Use Read formats after pasting the source URL, then leave Best available selected or choose a specific offered source format. The source selection describes what will be downloaded. The output preset is selected separately in the main window.
Online links are added to the queue with metadata and a preview; the media is downloaded when processing starts. Site behavior can change. Use the download-module update option offered after a failure, or the manual update command in Help, then retry. An update cannot guarantee access to private, removed or restricted media.
Project files and useful diagnostic details
Save .fvcjproject files for editing choices and keep their source media available. A project is not a backup of the recordings. Some older projects need migration; a legacy project containing non-1x speed edits is not silently converted into a different edit.
For a reproducible failure, keep the complete error text and the relevant job log. Record the application version, Windows version, input container and codecs, selected output, applied edits and whether the problem affects one source or the whole queue. Remove private paths or other sensitive details before sharing a log.
